Summer College Visits

Like all summers, this one is racing by. Before we know it, school will be back in session. The family vacation, however, may still be coming up, giving you an opportunity to make a college visit.

Although college visits may not rank with a trip to the Grand Canyon or a Florida beach, if you have a high school sophomore, junior, or senior, it can be a worthy side trip to add a quick tour of a college or two on your route. Most colleges will accommodate your schedule and at short notice. You will get an enthusiastic student to show you the highlights of the campus and answer questions while you stroll the grounds.

Another selling point for adding a college tour onto a family vacation is that it is usually an inexpensive side trip. College tours usually take only a couple of hours and are completely free of charge. Walking around a campus, checking out dorm rooms and the student center, is quite a different experience than a virtual online tour. It can make a significant difference in the selection process.
